Peamount United 1 - 4 Galway WFC

The Peas came into their last group game needing only a draw to qualify for the semi finals of this year's league cup but bowed out of the competition as Galway WFC staged a comeback from conceding an early goal to advance scoring four goals in the process. The home side were missing six of their squad due to injury but managed to take the lead when some good play saw Captain Claire Kinsella curl a right foot shot past Galway's net minder Tina Hughes. Galway WFC levelled the scoreline when Aisling Meaney fired a low right footed shot under the body of Brooke Dunne. Galway WFC took the lead soon after when Jess Nolan managed to knock the ball past Brooke Dunne after the Peas keeper came out to defend a long ball over her defense. Savannah McCarty gave the away side a two goal cushion when her free kick from thirty five yards out nestled into the top left hand corner of Dunne's net. Galway WFC finished off in style when Aisling Meaney grabbed her second of the game with a neat finish past Dunne. The Peas went close to scoring late on as Rachel Doyle's powerful free kick seemed destined for the back of the net only for Tina Hughes to tip it over the crossbar. The Peamount United Ladies can take alot of positives from today's game and will face the same opposition next week Eamonn Deacy Park. We would like to wish Galway WFC the best of luck in the Semi Finals.
